Mchinji District Council has commended the National Registration Bureau (NRB) for allocating a motor vehicle to Mchinji District Registration Office (DRO) which was facing challenges in implementing its activities.

Director of Administration for Mchinji District Council Raymond Nkhonya made the remarks on Tuesday, 7th February 2023, when NRB officials handed over a Toyota Hilux to the council to support registration functions in the district.

Nkhonya said the motor vehicle will greatly support the DRO office to assist citizens in hard-to-reach areas in the district.

“NRB officers used to borrow motor vehicles whenever they wanted to travel and work outside duty station. With this motor vehicle, it will eaase everything,” said Nkhonya.

In her remarks, NRB Principal Administrative Officer Elizabeth Gawamadzi [who led the NRB delegation on behalf of the Principal Secretary Mphatso Sambo] called on authorities at the council to priorities use of the motor vehicle on national registration functions.

Gawamadzi noted that citizens in Mchinji are in need of NRB services such as national ID, birth and death registration.

“Therefore, the motor vehicle should assist in serving the people especially in areas far away from the DRO,” said Gawamadzi.

The motor vehicle which has been allocated to Mchinji DRO was initially serving the NRB Headquarters.
